U12–U14 | Coastal Travel
Players Entering 5th–8th Grade
Program Description
DYSA is a member of the Coastal Youth Soccer League (CYSL), where teams compete against neighboring towns throughout the South Shore and surrounding communities. Games are played both home and away as part of the league schedule.
CYSL organizes competition into multiple divisions, with the most competitive teams participating in Division 1.
- D1 (Division 1 – Massachusetts Tournament of Champions eligible)
- D2 (Division 2 – Massachusetts Tournament of Champions eligible)
- DCC – Dave Coutts Cup (leveled competition)
The Coastal program includes two age groups: U12 and U14. As players progress through the program, the game format expands to support development. U12 teams compete in a 9v9 format, while U14 teams compete in the full 11v11 format used in older levels of the game.
At this stage, a greater spirit of competitive play is introduced, with increased emphasis on positioning, understanding the rules of the game, and developing team strategy.
Age Group
The Coastal program is divided into the following age groups for both boys and girls:
- U12 – players entering 5th or 6th grade for the upcoming school year
- U14 – players entering 7th or 8th grade for the upcoming school year
Season Length
Coastal League registration covers the full soccer year, including both the Fall and Spring seasons. Specific schedules are distributed closer to the start of each season.
The Fall season typically runs from early September through early November. The Spring season generally begins with preseason practices in March, with games and regular practices running from April through early June.
In the Coastal League, the Fall is considered the development season and does not include formal postseason play. The Spring is considered the competitive season, with Massachusetts Tournament of Champions and Coastal Cup competition taking place at the conclusion of the regular season.
During the season, players typically participate in two practices per week and one game on the weekend, typically played on Saturday. Practice schedules are determined by each team’s volunteer coach and depend on team and field availability. Game schedules are distributed prior to the start of each season.
